Title: Leveraging Remote Sensing for Flood Risk Management in Shell
Author: Emilie Blancart
Organisation: Shell Global Solutions International B.V
Floods are among the most severe and impactful natural disasters. The occurrence rate and intensity have been increasing significantly worldwide in recent years due to climate change and urbanization. The effects have been unprecedented on human lives and have had a direct impact to Shell energy business delivery.
Providing a prompt response to flooding events is crucial for humanitarian, social, and economic reasons. Also, historical and predicted flood extents are critical for situational awareness evaluation for future investments by Shell. It is in these spaces where Shell’s Geomatics teams demonstrate their commitment to powering lives and supporting local communities.
In this presentation, we shall present our learnings from recent, different flooding experiences and how remote sensing derived data allowed for better informed decision-making for Shell.
