Gerard Gallardo i Peres

Gerard is a radar scientist and a space engineer working on the field of synthetic aperture radar and altimetry, in particular for planetary science projects. He received the B.Sc. degree in aerospace engineering from the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC), Barcelona, in 2019, following his thesis work on CubeSat power system design at Politecnico di Milano, Milan, Italy and the M.Sc. degree in earth and space physics and engineering from the Technical University of Denmark (DTU), Kongens Lyngby, Denmark, in 2022, specializing in space research by means of synthetic aperture radar.

He is currently pursuing the Ph.D. degree at Imperial College London, U.K. He also holds a diploma in international relations and geopolitics by the Barcelona Institute of International Relations, and a classical piano music degree by the Municipal Conservatory of Barcelona.

Since 2019, he has been working with isardSAT S.L., an R&D company based in Barcelona providing solutions in the Earth Observation field. He is a recipient of a European Space Agency OSIP scholarship, and a fellow of the Royal Astronomical Society (FRAS). His research interests include SAR system design, radar altimetry, SAR applications such as D-InSAR and PolInSAR, and the simulation of future SAR imagery on Venus and its applications for change detection and geomorphology.

One piece of advice?
Be bold and unafraid, and trust yourself. Perhaps attitude is the most important of the qualities needed for a career…and a life!
