Title: Engineering Geomorphological Remote Sensing: Tools for Reading the Ground

Author: Andrew Hart

As engineers involved in the design, construction and operation of infrastructure, we need to understand the ground conditions of our sites, as well as the surface processes acting upon them.

The same is true when trying to assess the hazard and risk posed by Geohazards to lives, livelihoods and infrastructure.

These sites will all sit within a landscape that is the product of a sometimes long and varied geological history.

Clues to this history can often be deduced from the landforms making up the site.

Using a number of very short case studies, this presentation will explore how we can use engineering geomorphological mapping and remote sensing to tease out those clues and learn to ‘read the ground’ of our project areas.
