GRSG Committee Profile

Andrew Hart

Andrew began his career in 2001 working as an Engineering Geomorphologist for Scott Wilson Ltd., assessing the risk posed by landslides to rural roads and populations in Nepal and Bhutan.

Since then, he has worked on a wide range of projects assessing the impacts of Geohazards and other geo-engineering constraints (e.g., landslides, debris flows, mud volcanoes, steep terrain, etc.) on a wide variety of infrastructure projects (mountain roads, pipelines, industrial facilities, railways and offshore wind farms) as well as on disaster risk assessment & risk reduction projects.

This work frequently combines the use of engineering geomorphological mapping with Earth Observation remote sensing and GIS-based mapping and analytical techniques.

This has meant a lot of travelling, and a lot of fun living and working in some amazing places!

One piece of advice?

Be pro-active and make the most of every opportunity you have.  Your career is what you make of it.  It can be tough so look after yourself (physically and mentally), but it can also be extremely rewarding
